about

When a war child survives

lyrics

I’m in constant contemplation,
Of where I fit in this equation
Melting in the pot of international nation
Never knew I could cypher, rhymes relieve the nail bitter
Wish I could lead you to freedom with it and you call me the pied piper
Been hesitatin, debatin, matter fact I’m still waitin
To affirm this as the callin, do I even got business dream chasin
Thought it over and over and moreover,
I’m over the fact that they over here trying to silence my inner soldier
Warriors come outta circumstance,
In retrospect, deserve a chance
To let you know what come from the other side of the world besides the way we belly dance
I danced around fallen school bricks while chicks drop gas masks
Didn’t know I could drop bombs, back then I was dodging em glance
Into the eyes of a young hopeful, hoping to live past 21
They told me girls don’t fight, so I was raised like a son
Instead of battling on corners I battled with first formers
Inferior even on home soil, the militant lone loner
The f-f-f-f foreigner, held responsible for the story of
A holy war, with nothing holy but the earth they slice bodies of
Men, women, and children young and old alike,
If you lived another day, then you live to fight
Confused when I say they I’m talking the wealthy
Not black or white,
It’s a grey zone where I’m from
And nothing is darker than the night
Assumin to hear silence, but it’s the perfect time for violence
I’m hidin the under covers, but I can’t silence the sirens
Moms wrapping us like packages ready for shipping
Handle with care fragile children here living
I hope tonight a false alarm, but I’m ready I know the drill
Bags packed since birth I’m talking baggage, no standing still
They say times flies when you havin fun, wish it was like that
Time stood still, on the run, a gun’s a sure blast
Leave it all behind and never look back
All that’s left is debris fields, now cue the soundtrack
A message left after the tone, leave now the invader’s home,
Gather the young and help the grown,
One passport to pass ports of stone
Precious cargo and in the car we go
Days and nights, check points make time slow
Protection from detection by the love of a family that refused to crumble
Through sand banks like mini tanks, we kiss the earth and sleep with humble
Thoughts of a better tomorrow, no time to contemplate life,
We in it like we born to it, we call it reality you call it strife,
Did it look like fireworks, while you were tuned into CNN?
With “Gulf War” on rotation, and Desert Strom swooping in
4 years young, when battle sprung, August 2nd birthday month
So sun child had to wait a while before we celebrated what’s to come
You either practice religion or practice drills,
Don’t get caught unprepared
Block the receptor for pain and chills
Don’t get caught being scared
We were half way in it before this saviour talk of ‘91
So you’ll never catch me talking gats or blasting caps or blap blap just for fun
From point A to B a journey far from concise,
5 warriors equals 10 hearts, I’d rather roll together than roll dice
Taking chances and placing bets with death no option to think twice
It’s simple stick together, we all lived but paid the price
Of the unholy horrors that greed will do when love could suffice
So before you ask again, why I do what I do,
I found solace in these words, it’s not an offering to you
Music heals, but more than that I think this shit saved my life
And if I leave anything behind let be truth, cut the tension here’s the knife
Never dreamed of champagne poppin, coz the ground was drunk with blood
Never dreamed 30 years knockin, outta quick sand so don’t drag me through mud
Making assumptions is just a symptom of living here for too long,
We all guilty of it, but propagating that we all belong,
No music no muses, this is honesty on the table
Romanticizing my civilization is as untruthful as a fable
Your muses are thrones, but we all bleed red so why you hatin
I’d rather be a peasant than the exotic Queen in waitin
If what you preach is entitled, then you assimilated just the same
Multi syllables and round about talk spells bullshit with a better name,
Now that I’ve told one story, it’s my role now play your part
Seems like I only got your attention if I took my truth and made it art…
